Watalog sought a fresh approach to compete with the ubiquitous single-use plastic bottles in India. We saw an opportunity to ignite a cultural revolution, transforming the simple act of drinking water into a catalyst for genuine human connection and sustainable living. By reimagining the water bottle as a tool for positive change, we aimed to inspire a generation to embrace authentic interactions and eco-conscious choices.
THE CHALLENGES
Beyond Hydration.
Through our research, we discovered two critical insights about the behaviors of modern young consumers:
1. Unspoken Words: Many people today have a lot to say but often hold back, unsure of how to break the silence, even with strangers nearby. The backspace button, frequently pressed, became a metaphor for unspoken words and conversations left unsaid. We envisioned Watalog as a bridge, allowing people to share a moment and silently communicate care.
2. Health-Conscious Living: Hydration is a rising wellness trend, especially among young adults. We saw an opportunity to support this trend with a sustainable alternative to single-use plastics.
Our goal was to take Watalog beyond utility and transform it into a meaningful experience that bridges social gaps while encouraging healthier habits.
This vision inspired our brand concept of a "Water Nudge"—a small, everyday gesture that can spark connection, whether with friends, family, colleagues, customers or strangers. Ultimately, making sustainability accessible and subtle.
A Sip of Connection, A Drop of Change.
Watalog’s identity was crafted to embody Connection, Wellness, and Eco-Consciousness, making it a brand that encourages people to reach out and make small, impactful changes.
Brand Character and Identity
1. Purpose and Values: We defined Watalog’s values as supportive, transparent, and attentive, with a mission to be a “simple gesture” anyone can share.
The branding reinforces connections by targeting health-conscious individuals who seek more than just a drink, appealing to emotional and social dimensions of hydration. “Let water do the talking” became Watalog’s guiding concept, defining it as a brand that fosters quiet connections.
2. Visual Identity: We aimed to create a visual identity that would resonate emotionally, striking a balance between warmth and calmness to embody both the power of connection and the soothing qualities of water.
The choice of purple as the primary brand color was deliberate, as it symbolizes the convergence of two powerful opposites: red and blue.
Purple, a blend of passionate red and tranquil blue, symbolizes the emotional journey of connection. It represents the warmth of reaching out and the calm reassurance of presence, making it the perfect color for a brand that fosters human connection.
Warm accent colors make Watalog appear cheerful and friendly. Secondary colors like green reinforce its health and eco-friendly focus.
MESSAGING STRATEGY
The Subtle Art of Connection.
We created the campaign tagline #JustaNudge, encouraging consumers to use Watalog as a simple, subtle way to show care. The messaging focused on universal experiences with phrases like Every unspoken “I care” and “Every awkward silence” helping build an emotional connection to Watalog.
