Designing Change – The Urban Climate Film Festival

Brand Identity

The Urban Climate Film Festival (UCFF), an initiative by the National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) under the CITIIS program, aimed to spotlight the critical intersection of climate change and urban development. In collaboration with Alliance Française (AF) and supported by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), the festival brought together filmmakers, climate advocates, and urban planners to showcase stories that emphasize the urgency of addressing climate issues in cities.

The festival spanned multiple Indian cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, and Ahmedabad, and created a platform where art, activism, and urban resilience converged. UCFF wasn’t just about screening films—it was about catalyzing real conversations and actions around sustainable urban development.

THE IMPACT

Films that Sparked Conversations

The Urban Climate Film Festival went beyond its role as an event; it became a catalyst for change. Each film presented powerful narratives that underscored the urgency of addressing climate issues in urban areas. From showcasing innovative climate solutions to highlighting the struggles faced by urban communities, the festival created a space for critical dialogue and reflection.

Art for Advocacy

The festival’s ability to bridge the gap between art and advocacy was a major highlight. The films weren’t just stories—they were calls to action. Each screening opened up a dialogue on urban development, sustainability, and climate resilience, making the audience feel empowered to contribute to the solutions.

These films amplified the voices of those who often go unheard in the conversation about climate change, pushing attendees to think beyond just cities and focus on their own roles in shaping a sustainable future.

Easy maintenance
equals effortless care.

We understand that convenience is key, so we have designed our water dispenser with ease of maintenance in mind. Our filters are designed to be easily removed and replaced without the need for tools or complicated procedures. The exterior of our dispenser is made from materials that are easy to clean and maintain. A simple wipe-down with a damp cloth will keep it looking its best.

Crafting a Purpose-Driven Brand Experience

At Mouse & Cheese Design Studio, we approached the project by focusing on the festival’s core message: urban cities can lead the way in climate change action

Our primary responsibility was to develop a strong brand identity and communication strategy that not only captured the essence of the festival but also inspired audiences to take action.

Climate change is a natural phenomenon influenced by Earth's rotation, revolution, and axial tilt as it orbits the sun, which creates variations in solar radiation and contributes to long-term climate patterns. However, human activities have accelerated climate change at an alarming rate. While these planetary forces are beyond our control, our individual efforts—such as reducing carbon emissions, conserving energy, and adopting sustainable practices—can play a crucial role in mitigating the human impact on climate change.

Interaction Design

To engage the festival attendees in a unique and thought-provoking way, we designed an interactive banner called "The Sustainability Spiderweb." Participants first picked a thread, then tied it to the first word that came to their mind when thinking of sustainability.

They continued by stretching the thread along a path to connect subsequent words that reflected their evolving thoughts on sustainability, looping around hooks at each station.

This process was repeated until their final word, creating a collective, visual representation of sustainability ideas woven together across the banner.

The Urban Climate Film Festival was more than a film event—it was a movement that empowered individuals, communities, and leaders to recognize the urgency of climate challenges in urban settings and take meaningful action. By creating a strong visual identity, crafting an empowering social media strategy, and amplifying the festival’s impact, We ensure that the UCFF was not only an inspiring event but a significant step toward building climate-resilient cities.

The festival’s success highlights the power of collaboration between filmmakers, activists, and urban planners in shaping the narrative around climate change. And as UCFF continues to inspire and educate, the impact of this event will ripple through cities, sparking the climate action we all need for a sustainable future.

Engaging and thoughtful design

We crafted an immersive, eco-conscious experience for the Urban Climate Film Festival by blending creative merchandise with beautifully designed informational pamphlets.

Alongside, our carefully crafted screening schedule pamphlets provided a clean, visually engaging guide that not only outlined film times but also contextualized the larger climate conversation.

This combination of practical design and playful messaging ensured attendees left feeling both inspired and informed, solidifying a memorable festival experience.

Strategizing social media

To ensure the festival reached the right audience, we developed an engaging social media strategy that invited climate-conscious filmmakers, activists, and urban planners to participate.

The campaign was designed to be empowering and inclusive, highlighting the role everyone can play in tackling climate challenges.

Brand Identity development

We created a visual identity that merged urban and nature elements, reflecting the delicate balance between urban development and climate sustainability. The logo, fonts, and color palette were designed to evoke both the urgency and hope that define climate action.

A visually compelling logo and design elements that combined urban motifs with natural elements, making the festival’s theme of sustainability immediately recognizable.
